Which is worse? Clean it up!

Which is worse, dog poo all over your pavements, or pictures of dogs pooing all over your pavements? Seriously, these grose pictures of dogs with poo coming out of their bums (the sticky down bit at the back) are at boths ends of every pavement on our street! Who designed this? Ideally there would be no dog poo on the pavements, but I think putting these paintings all over the pavements is unneccessary.

The Inside Man, Failure to Launch

Failure to Launch - Romantic / Comedy. Pretty good, some stupid (annoying) bits, such as the 3rd guy at the end and the woman in the cafe. Like, what the chuff!?! It's good though, just "watch at home on DVD" good, rather than going out to cinema good, unless you're after a romantic outing to the cinema that is... The Inside Man - Action / Thriller. A solidly good film, entertaining, clever bank robbery, fairly obvious what's going on if you're paying attention. Some stuffs still left in the dark, and there's not much "closure" regarding what happens next after the film ends, ie. they left it so vague that I don't really care what happens next. The camera shots often seemed too close-up, and when they were panning, it seemed overly jerky / choppy making it hard to focus what was on screen. Again I think it's one to watch on DVD, saving yourself money. Unpleasant use of the naughty 'C' word. (as though it's now becoming an ac...

Man Flu (I have a cold)

I have a cold. There should be some kind of definition and diagnosis of the common cold, with several levels of severity. This is needed to define what kind of cold the Man has - there's a common (mis)conception that when men get colds, they think they have the Flu. Which is why it's called a "Man Flu" - because apparently, when a woman has the exact same symptoms, they simply have a cold and continue on with there lives as though nothing is wrong. This is why we need a strictly defined cold severity level. I propose that once it passes, say level 5, it then be diagnosed as a real Flu for example, here's how I would define it: 1. Sniffles, sneezing, sore throat (this isn't a cold, it is merely a sign that you may be getting a cold) 2. Snotty noise, blowing nose, coughing - this is a basic cold 3. All of above plus: Headache, sore nose (too much blowing of the nose). 4. All of above plus: Brain can only focus on one thing at a time*, Balance and motion is impai...

Sunset Panoramic and a Dead Laptop

Well, here's an awesome looking sunset picture. The clouds look pretty Ghostbusters ectoplasmy. Click to view bigger. The laptop is now dead - a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 - 15", P4-m 1.8ghz, 30gb, 640mb, Wifi, DVD/CDROM, has died. It switches off in the middle of doing nothing, then will not switch back on again, till battery, power cable taken out for a while. Currently it seems completely dead, and won't power up at all, the power cable light simply flashes orange on and off. This is apparently VERY common with this model of Toshiba laptop. SO common that Toshiba lost a court case, and have to pay out for all repair costs involved even if the laptop is out of warranty... but only in the US! I will talk to Toshiba and see what they say, so far they have been saying it will cost x amount of money to repair (replace the motherboard - it's so common - they know exactly what needs replacing straight away). x being an unknown amount - they will advise at next step. And ...

Kit Kat Chunky Peanut Butter

Who? Nestle Where? Corner Shop Why? No idea What? 50 grams of Crisp Wafer finger with a Peanut cream topping (20%) covered in Milk Chocolate. 31.5% fat. When? Just now How? Main ingrediant: Sugar, Cocoa Butter, followed by "Peanut Paste (10%)", lots of other stuff, Peanut Flour, Butterfat, etc, it even includes Yeast and Calcium Sulphate (commonly known as Plaster of Paris ). Yum. May contain traces of other nuts. Verdict: Kind of nice. Not as good as classic mini kitkats, nor as good as Peanut Butter Lion bars. If Peanut butter is your favourite thing then you may like it more than me. Next time I think I'll be buying a Double Decker instead. Pictures brought to you my the letters S and L and the number 1.

Photo updates

I'm officially 26. Here's the cake H made for me for my birthday - it's even got 26 real candles! Everybody seems surprised when they find out I'm 26 - so perhaps I'm going to have to try something to make myself look younger - anyone got any suggestions? I'm thinking perhaps if I shave and get a short haircut that might help? I've made it anyway, apparently I'm safe till my mid-life crisis where I'm expected to buy a sports car. Why I can't just get one anyway without having a midlife crisis I'll maybe never know, but it always seems to be the way it works if you listen to the people who don't own the sports car. This is the P. Galkoff Family butcher on London Road / Pembroke Place (or there - abouts) - I've always wanted a photo of it as I love the green tiles and the old-fashioned look. From the stuff surrounding the building I'm guessing it may not be there much longer. It'll be a shame when / if this goes, especially if ...

Snow in Liverpool!

Hoorah! Proper 2 inches thick crunchy snow in Liverpool. The last time this happened it wasn't anywhere near as good as it is today. It's so rare in fact that these two photos are the only memory I have of it happening in the last 5 or 6 years I've been in Liverpool. When I was first here, it was just rain, constant rain. And then just as you thought it had stopped raining, it rained some more. So much so that H and me went out and bought proper heavy duty rain proof coats with special rain-proof-ness rating, and breathability rating. Now our coats aren't even waterproof - that's how much Liverpool's rain situation has changed. Heather was up earlier than me, and took these photos:

New films at the cinema...

We've recently joined screenselect - and have watched 'the notebook' - it was surprisingly good. Films I still want to watch: Syriana The Weather Man Final Destination 3 (currently out at cinemas) AeonFlux - trailer looks good. H. would quite like to see Munich , and I think I would too. The only question now is whether to go watch these films at the cinema, or just wait till they're available at screenselect? I just don't know how long that's gonna be. It's way easier to find movies you want to watch on screenselect, than it is at blockbuster, plus there's never any fines. Another film that looks fairly good (but predictable) is Matador - it's got the whole killing people thing going on in films that I generally find entertaining, and it's mixed in with some comedy, so it should be good.

New Shoes...

I got some new shoes yesterday, ' Clarks Show Low GTX, Activ Air', to replace my work shoes. (For some reason, people think spelling words like active incorrectly as 'Activ', makes a product "cool".) My previous shoes lasted about 2 years, and were from Clarks, they don't do the same shoe anymore so I've had to get some different ones*. I'm not sure how long they'll last though, and thought it would be good to blog about it then I have a record of it. The last time I had to buy new shoes, I ended up returning about 3 pairs before I got some that lasted, I bought some initially from Next, they broke, then some from George (Asda), they broke, then some cheap ones from Clarks, they broke, then finally I got some expensive (£60) shoes from Clarks that were a lot like trainers, with big squishy soles, and "activ air", which apparently makes them better for your feet. They lasted about 2 years, but I'm not 100% sure because I have no r...

The Littlest Hobo in Spanish

Do you remember the littlest hobo? It featured an excellent theme tune: "Maybe Tomorrow" by Scooch (featured on " The Best TV Ads " compilation). Anyway, I loved that little guy, going from town to town helping people out, and then every episode you thought he'd found his perfect home, only for him to leave at the end, it was heartbreaking I tells ya. Anyway, recreate "The Littlest Hobo" experience here ...in spanish!

digital cameras... and the death of film...

surfing again, I started somewhere, read about the death of film *, found this one interesting where they have this lovely picture it makes me want to travel, and ended here looking at more lovely pics. I think there should be a different name for this kind of 'surfing', surfing with no prupose, but surfing the internet and following a theme, 'theme surfing' pehaps. most of the time i check my most favourite sites, or simple start at bloglines, but each site/page i go to is a fresh start at point a, where it only occassionally spurs 'theme surfing', but if I'm lucky, I find something that can start the theme going. * regarding the death of film , advocates of film say that film will last 100s of years, although in my opinion, this is most likely if you end up a famous photographer, make some books etc... (rant mode on...) I read somewhere^, they were saying "Will JPEGs be around in 10 years?" / "Will people be able to open JPEGs?" - wh...

Pepsi Max Cino Review

Well, it was on special offer at Asda, buy one get one free on packs of 6 cans so I had to try it, didn't I? And now I have, and the verdict: It's not coffee, so obviously it'se never going to be as good as a proper coffee , and it's not cola, but you'd think that perhaps the two could combine to make some kind of super coffee-coke? Well, not really, it tastes mainly like super sweet cola, with a sickly caramilised additional taste, and if you try really hard you can taste a tiny bit of coffee flavour in there. Overall though, I wouldn't say it was enjoyable, rather that it's *just* about bearable, with an overly sweet, sickly taste. If it stays on the market, then I can imagine it being popular with students / or people who leave deadlines to the last minute and have to work all night, due to the higher caffiene content than normal coke, and the less scary caffeine content than real coffee / red bull. Update: Tony tried some "Pepsi Max Coffee Cino...

A New Me!

A new day, a new me (well not really). I've been playing with the Ricoh GR Digital today, it's got a Text scene mode that captures the image as a black and white tiff file, and it allows you to change the darkness of the image you're taking, Microsoft's built in picture viewer seemed to make it look like it was a greyscale image, which I thought looked cool, so here it is. I'm really good at putting off work, but still think I'm working, for example, I have a heap of reviews to write (4 currently! and more cameras expected!!), but I'm much better at taking random photos and playing with the cameras than actually doing the writing, although playing with the cameras is important, if I don't write anything then it kind of defeats the purpose! Also, I'm VERY good at reading about cameras on the internet as well, and I'm especially good at going off on a tangent, for example, I was reading Ken Rockwell's website the other day, and ended up readi...

This is nuts

This is just so nuts, it's brilliant, this guy's talking about digital cameras, as though they're computers, which they are, but I love the amount of detail (CPU speed, type, sound quality etc), and especially how you can play doom on them!! I wonder what speed and type of chips are in modern digital cameras!

Bendy Bic Pens and Maccy Dees

Well, I'm in a new buiding, only 4 minutes walk from where I live! I went to Maccy Dees (local dialect for McDonalds) today, and was texting H about it - but my phone made me spell both Maccy, and Dees, so here's an idea: Why don't mobile phones come with local dialect already built into the text dictionary? Phones sold in Liverpool can be supplied with "Eh La!", "Kidder", "Kwiky" (Kwik-Save), and of course Maccy Dees. In other exciting news - I invented / made my very first bendable bic pen! I've been working on experimental destruction of pens for a long time now, about two weeks ago, through the use of sellotape I discovered I could extend the life of the pen, and today I wrapped the whole pen in sellotape making it really bendable - but still usable.
