Dumbphones, Feature phones, and Non-Android Smartphones

Nokia 105, Nokia E75, Nokia Lumia 520 (roughly to scale) Avoiding Google and other companies tracking your every move has become more and more difficult, as smartphones have become an integral part of life. We accept Google knowing everywhere we go because we find Google Maps extremely useful for getting us from point A to point B, for free. We accept tracking of distance and speed travelled, as it informs Google of traffic issues, and can then let other people (and yourself) know that there might be a quicker way to get to where you're going. Sure you can switch off tracking , but other apps may still be tracking you. For example, Google Play services also likes to know where you are, as does Chrome (for "helpful" location based search results). (Google's mail system GMail also likes to read your emails). Use Facebook messenger, and Facebook read (or scan) all your messages , or flag up your message to moderators to read. So if these are functions and...

Google Android Mobile Phones in the UK

They're all mobile phones. Although apparently you're supposed to call them "SmartPhones" these days. What difference does it make? Seriously, who cares, just call them all Mobile Phones and keep it simple. Anyway - I was interested in finding out about Google / Android phones, and thought maybe the best solution was to find and collate the information myself. So here goes - a guide / timeline of Google phones and any alternative names used for the devices (nice way to add confusion to an already confusing market place guys!) 2011 Phones: Ones to watch... Well... that was easy...

I was getting a little bored with hosting my own website. It was somewhat time consuming, relied on my ip address staying the same, my pc being on all the time, and having no internet or pc problems ever. Which is rare, at the best of times. Now I'm / I've uploaded all the photos from Gallery (1) to Google Picasa Webalbums (using Google Picasa 3.5), chosen a new style (upgraded) blogger template and added widgets so you can view the photos and new albums automatically (using the Picasa photo stream widget, and the RSS feed widget). Nice. (1) Gallery 1 was hosted locally on my PC so it was easy enough to copy all the albums, search for "sized" "thumbs" and other random files (".dat", ".bak" etc) and clean it up so I was just left with the original files in their original album folders - then I put these in Google, let it detect some new faces, and then uploaded. You can do the same if you have FTP access to your website, just find the ...

Google Picasa Web Albums...

Flickr seems to be very popular, and photobucket seems to have good sharing stuff (share with blogger, twitter, fb etc), but picasa web albums seems to be quite a manual process, for example, why can't I post photos to my blogger / twitter / fb account automatically any time I upload photos to picasa web albums? (presumably I'd have to do it manually with RSS feeds?) fb-lakes
